PLN: Week 2 -Post 4 bullies.

I read the article,"Stop Cyber bulling Day", from The Fischbowl, by Karl Fisch. The article was a student made video that was talking about standing up for yourself and telling someone you’re being bullied.

I've personally never been cyber bullied and I don't know of any close friends who have but I've heard about it so much I know it’s a big deal. I also remember reading an article in seventeen magazine and the story was about an girl who was cyber bullied to death, after being harassed so much she committed suicide she had been told there was no point to her life so much that she started to believe it. Most stories about cyber bullying the bullies don't even have a reason, or it's just that they want to make themselves feel better because they have a low self esteem. But that like seriously sucks, that the bully doesn’t even have enough confidence in yourself that you would have to bully someone else.

I really believe that taking a stand for yourself and speaking up when you’re getting bullied is huge! I mean sometimes it might be hard but there’s many different ways like telling a friend who will understand and take you to get help. I guess that i dont fully understand what’s happening with these people when they say there to afraid to tell someone. I mean it would be different if you were being threatened but if you weren’t I dont really see it a big deal these bullies are probably to afraid to even talk to you in person so would they really have the guts to come hurt you?

PLN: Week 2- Post 3 Never Coming Back

I read the article, "Fighting the Tide of Youth Suicide", from the rocky mountain news; written by Bill Gallo. It talks about teens committing suicide; while family and friends had no clue that there loved one would do such a thing.

Suicide is so life impacting, not only for the one who commits it but for the ones who love them. To seriously think that your life needs to be over before you even get half way through it blows my mind. Dont you want to grow up and find your true love get married get a job have kids and see where you go in life. So maybe some kids have it harder than me, I pretty much have my life planned out, I’ll graduate high school, go to collage, and get a job, but even for those people who dont have the money or family and friends to support them I dont see why you wouldn’t want to better yourself and try to make it as far as you can, and go out and live!

Just today (Wednesday the 26th) i went to a leadership conference where we talked about safety, we talked about suicide and every school there said that they had students who had committed suicide or knew about students who were on suicide watch, one student even told us about how one of her good friends had shot him self in the head in his car at the parking lot of there school, it had impacted every on of there students. it see a friends head blown off, brain spilling out and blood flowing trough his car, would be the most horrific moment of my life. I then realized that every one of ours schools had, had a suicide it was so much more like common then I had thought.

In the article it says that, Colorado has the sixth highest suicide rate in the nation, wow, sixth out of 52 states. It also said about 724 Coloradans took there life in 2006. I sort of found this all ironic that I choose this story the same time we were supposed to have our yellow ribbon assembly, I was bummed out we didn’t have it but I am looking forward to it! i wonder if teenagers who like commit suicide really think it through to the full extent, you can never come back.

Really ironic that i am sitting here talking about this and my parents are in the other room watching NCIS and its talking about a girl who commited suicide!

PLN: Week 1- Post 2 brain!

I read a recent article in The fischbowl blog. The article was titled, "Thought for the day:4-8-07" it was written by Karl Fisch. The thought was about how the left and right brain work, the left brain is logic and the right brain creativity. The article was talking about how schools these days are cutting back on arts creative classes. Our schools are based on logical classes that are holding back our right brain.

This story relates to me because i feel like I'm a very right brain thinker, i like to learn visually. even thought i may suck in drawing i still enjoy it greatly. If schools use mostly let brain thinking i would get bored. I love to be creative and it really makes a difference using both sides of my brain.

This story relates to the world because its saying that we cant just use half of our Brain and that schools across the world need to be using all that each individual has to offer and use all of our brains not just a chunk. I also see this as if we only used logic's for the eastern states and creative for the western and tried to be the best the united states we have now but only using the eastern states we would fail miserably.

PLN: Week 1- Post 1 OUCH!

I read a recent article from the Rocky Mountain News blog. The article was titled, "Wasp stings 10 kids boarding school bus" written by Lynn Bartels. This article was regarding a story about 10 out of 24 kids boarding a bus getting stung by the same wasp, the paramedics arrived at the scene to tend to the injured students. After the kids were tended to police and school officials found the nest near the bus stop.

This story relates to me in ways such as if I were to ride the bus to school this could potentially happen to me so I think it is important that through this story people learn how to prevent this sort of thing from happening. I also liked how well the school handled this situation by having the paramedics come and then searching for the nest it made me feel safe.

This story relates to the world because it could happen anywhere in the world, and having this story published allows adults and fellow students take precautions so that is doesn't happen to them. It also reminds me of 9/11 because of having it happen made our society be way more cautious, just like how the bees made people more aware of wasps.

I've also never been stung by a wasp or bee. I plan to keep it that way. Some people say that they won't hurt you if you don't bother them but that hasnt stopped me from yelling and running around when they are present. I thought this story was one of the funniest things I have EVER read.
